The Creation of a Mega Voyage

Last year when I was on the Prinsendam cruising the Amazon River I started looking for long voyages. I was toying with doing a very long voyage on the Statendam. I was working with two travel agents since it became apparent to me when booking the Amazon Voyage that it's necessary to shop around. I'm sure that my travel agent David wasn't thrilled with that since I had been booking cruises with him for over 15 years. It was time that I did start shopping around because I knew that there were many travel agents out there that did a lot more for their clients than I was used to with David. During the exercise of trying to put together a long voyage on the Statendam it became apparent that it was just getting very difficult. At about the same time my friend Patty suggested I look at a 64 day Asia, Polynesia and Australia voyage on the ms Amsterdam leaving on 21 September 2007 from Seattle returning to San Diego. I looked at it and immediately decided that this was the voyage for me. I also concluded that if I added the following 17 day Panama cruise I would end up in Ft Lauderdale and have a shorter trip home. I booked it with Patty who is also a travel agent and continued my Amazon adventure. At some later date, I decided to go ahead and book the 2008 World Voyage just in case I really loved the 2007 World Voyage which I had not taken yet. Finally, during the 2007 World Voyage it became apparent to me that there was only 24 days between my 81 day Asia, Polynesia and Australia voyage with the Panama add on and the 2008 World Voyage. That was hardly enough time to ship things home from one voyage, get the laundry done and ship things out for the next. I had some help from some great folks in Seattle to help me get the right cabin (don't want to go through unnecessary moving) and the voyage construction was complete. The result..... a 219 day voyage, consisting of the 64 day Asia, Polynesia and Australia voyage, the 17 day Panama Canal transit voyage, a 10 day Caribbean voyage, a 14 day holiday (Caribbean) voyage and the 114 day 2008 Grand World Voyage, the Golden Anniversary Odyssey. What a Mega Voyage..... The 2008 Grand World Voyage is named the Golden Anniversary Odyssey because it is a celebration of 50 years since the first world voyage of Holland America..... impressive! I hope that those of you that joined me on my previous cruising adventures will join me on the biggest one yet (even you Whitey), Jeff's Mega World Voyage 2007-2008. The itinerary follows:

Hey Jeff, I'm still following you along. Met you last yr on a cruise to Bermuda. We looked at this same trip you're going on, but unfortunately it is too long. Can't wait to see the pictures. Just got off the Prinsendam after a 22 day cruise in Rome. We made our way to the QM2 home to NY. Awesome trip.

HI Jeff,

I followed along on your last voyage and loved it. Please include us in your planning stages also. I am especially interested in how you arrange your excursions. I believe you said on your last World Voyage that you were not quite satisfied with the onboard excursions. I'd love to hear how you organize a trip of this magnitude.

Also, I get the feeling that you are quite experienced being oon the road for extended periods of time. Can you give us some tips and tricks on how you keep you personal 'stuff' organized when you are away. And how do you stay connected with family and friends? Do you rely a great deal on email as opposed to snail mail.

Thanks for sharing another wonderful travel experience with us.

Email me and I will discuss planning.

Jeff time does pass quickly. It won't be long and you will be off to the west coast. Just dropping a note to have a safe trip and all of us stuck back will be enjoying the blog.
Any Canadians on board? LMAO.
