This morning I took a shore excursion exploring Malta’s capitals, old & new. Here is the description: Take the scenic route to Malta's old capital, Mdina--one of the world's finest examples of a living medieval city. Stroll through the city's streets and let your guide give you an introduction to Valletta's history and orientation to the town itself. From the bastions, enjoy the fantastic view over the valley and the surrounding areas. After your walking tour, take advantage of some free time to visit either the Cathedral or another historical site pointed out by your guide, or simply relax at one of the pavement cafis and watch the world go by, Malta-style. There is also the option of souvenir shopping. Visit the cathedral, then ride by motor coach to Valletta--the present-day capital. You'll walk to St. John's Co-Cathedral, complete with elaborate in-laid marble tombstones and monumental artwork. View the Grand Master's Palace from the outside--it now houses the Parliament and the President's Office. Your last stop is at the Barracca Gardens on the highest point of the 16th-century walls that the Knights of St. John built to protect their city. Take in the splendid view of the Three Cities and Fort Ricasoli. Here's how my day went, first we went to Mdina, Malta’s oldest capital. It is truly one of the best examples of a still inhabited medieval city. It was really magnificent…. The narrow streets, bastions, churches and few inhabitants make this place really special. Next, we went to Malta’s current capital, Valletta. This was built in the 16th century by the Knights of St John, aka the Malta Knights. We explored the Grand Master’s Palace, St John’s Co-Cathedral with it’s elaborated inlaid marble tombstones that make up the floor of the Co-Cathedral, and the Barraca Gardens….. Amazing place! I spent the afternoon sitting in the sun enjoying my 39th birthday ( I hope there aren’t any typos). Sandra & Allan took me to dinner this evening at the Pinnacle Grill and the evening was fabulous!!!!
