Day 144 Melbourne, Australia

I had an extremely busy day today…. We didn’t get off the ship until a little after 9:00, some delay in docking and immigration. Allan, Sandra & I got on the Tram and headed for Queen Victoria Market. It is only open on Tuesdays & Thursdays and it is huge…. I hung out there for a while including having a bite to eat. I left them there and I was off to explore Melbourne. I walked for the market to the Old Melbourne Gaol (jail) and toured it. It was pretty cool… even had the gallows inside to Gaol. From there I went strolling around the city checking sights like the Old Royal Mint and the Law Courts on my way to the Rialto Tower to go to the Observation Deck. The view from there was just spectacular. I saw some interesting sights from there that helped my planning for the rest of the afternoon. Next I walked down to Flinders Street to see the Flinders Station and the adjacent St Paul’s Cathedral. Just down the street was the Melbourne Town Hall which was another beautiful Victorian building…. Next up I went to The Block Arcade which was reminiscent of the Queen Victoria Building architecture in Sydney, just on a smaller scale. From there I walked to the Royal Botanic Gardens and to the Shrine of Remembrance. The shrine was pretty amazing. It was built to honor those who gave their life in WWI and is nothing less than spectacular. I then walked along the Yarra River before I finally gave up and took a tram back to the ship. I will say that Melbourne has an excellent transportation system even though I walked alot instead of taking advantage of it. It really is a very interesting and beautiful city…. Great day!
