Day 157 at Sea

Today turned out to be a pretty nice day. There was the occasional dark cloud that passed
but they were of no consequence. Allan & I did see a couple of funnel clouds trying to reach the water without success. We really wanted to see a waterspout…. Tomorrow we arrive in Manila, Philippines early in the morning…. First visit, very exciting! I’m taking a ship’s tour in the morning to see “old” Manila. Here is the description:
The Charms of Old Manila
Take a step back in time as you discover the Charms of Old Manila, beginning with a visit to historic Rizal Park. Here the remains of this country’s national hero, Dr José Rizal, lie within the cornerstone of Rizal Monument. Continue to the old walled city of Intramuros, built during the Spanish colonial period. Visit Fort Santiago which served as headquarters of the military might of the Spanish, American and Japanese colonists until its destruction in 1945. An added bonus here is a welcome Mardi Gras performance, which will show you a little of the frenzied dance of Manila’s Carnival. You will pass San Augustin Church—the oldest structure in the Philippines, which dates back to 1571. The next stop is Casa Manila, a reconstructed 19th-century mansion replete with 16th- to 19th-century furnishings. The last stop is a visit to the Bahay Tsinoy Museum, depicting the life of the Chinese population in the Philippines. The return trip takes you under the Quiapo Bridge where you will find a veritable treasure of authentic local handicraft products.
After the tour I plan on going back into the city to look around and shop a bit….

Visiting Manilla means that the ms Amsterdam Wine Stewards, Bartenders, and front desk ladies will get to see their families for the first time in many months. Please give our best to the sweet ladies and to Romero from the Cummings at table 118 on the Asia Pacific Voyage last fall.
Thank you for sharing your megavoyage and the great photographs.
