Day 162 At Sea

Today was a beautiful day outside. It certainly was a welcome sight to see a bright sunny day since the last three were either being a tourist of crappy weather. Nice to just sit back and bronze….. We sailed out of the South China Sea through the Hainan Strait into the Gulf of Tonkin. Going through the strait there was a lot of shipping traffic and fishing boats. It seemed strange because we don’t see that much traffic on our journey. Tomorrow we anchor in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. Ha Long means “descending dragon” which refers to the limestone forms in the bay. That’s exactly what I plan on seeing tomorrow. Allan, Sandra & I are taking a ship’s tour to cruise around Ha Long Bay. Here is a description: Ha Long Bay Cruise & Thien Cong Cave
Bay of the Descending Dragon is the English translation for Halong Bay. This remarkable natural wonder was made famous in the West when it was featured in the French film Indochine. Halong Bay is dotted with more than 3,000 limestone islands, their jagged points jutting out of an oceanic area of over 579 square miles. Some are covered in dense vegetation; others are bare and rocky. Sail gracefully past these imposing formations on a converted fishing junk with red sails in a scene that is as timeless as the bay itself. You will stop at Thien Cung Cave and wander through the cavern to marvel at its stalagmite and stalactite creations.
